HH The Amir’s Sword equestrian event to feature 283 riders

Preparations are complete for the HH The Amir’s Sword equestrian competition at Al Shaqab in Doha, running from February 11 to 14, 2026, with 283 riders and 599 horses competing for prizes exceeding €2 million. The event, the fifth leg of the Doha Equestrian Tour, highlights international showjumping talent including world number one Scott Brash. It aims to boost Qatari equestrian development and sports tourism.

The HH The Amir’s Sword equestrian championship kicks off on Wednesday at Al Shaqab, drawing competitors from over 30 countries. Among the 283 riders are 93 Qataris, participating in showjumping and dressage disciplines. The total prize purse surpasses €2 million, with the centerpiece Grand Prix offering €1.5 million and attracting top global showjumpers.

The schedule begins Wednesday with two five-star classes at 140cm and 150cm in the outdoor arena. Thursday includes nine classes from one-star to five-star levels, three three-star World Cup qualifiers, a local 60cm class, an international dressage event, and the Hermes Seller class—a 155cm Grand Prix qualifier with jump-off. Friday features 10 rounds, encompassing star and three-star competitions, World Cup qualifiers, junior and youth events, a local 80cm round, another dressage class, and the five-star Grand Prix at 160cm. Saturday wraps up with the three-star Grand Prix at 150cm for World Cup qualification, a star Grand Prix at 130cm, additional five-star and one-star rounds, FEI Group VII qualifiers for youth and juniors, more three-star World Cup events, and a local 100cm class.

Prominent riders include Britain’s Scott Brash, the world number one who leads the Doha Equestrian Tour’s four-star and five-star standings with 199 points. Others are Austria’s Max Kuhner, Britain’s Harry Charles (114 points), USA’s Eve Jobs, Germany’s Nadia Peter-Steiner, and Belgium’s Abdelkader Said. In the one-star category, Qatar’s Saad Ahmed al-Saad tops with 49 points.

Doha Equestrian Tour Executive Director Khalifa Al Attiyah noted the event’s role in Qatar’s equestrian growth, calling it the region’s largest by prize money and praising Al Shaqab’s facilities. QEF President Bader bin Mohammed Al Darwish emphasized opportunities for Qatari riders to face international stars, enhancing sports tourism and Doha’s global sports status. Sports Director Salmeen Al Suwaidi highlighted the diverse program, including qualifiers and local events.

A Friday closing ceremony will feature light shows, drone displays, and equestrian entertainment, with a fan zone offering cafes, retail, and family activities. Cultural exhibitions around the Longines Arena will display Qatari heritage. The championship is organized by the Qatar Equestrian Federation, Qatar Olympic Committee, and Al Shaqab.
