Hong Kong's young show jumper Fu Ka-ching rises internationally

At 17, Fu Ka-ching is emerging as a promising talent in Hong Kong's growing equestrian scene, balancing competitive show jumping with her studies. Daughter of actor Alex Fong Chung-sun and former actress Hoyan Mok, she has achieved notable results in both local and overseas events over the past year. Her experiences highlight the challenges of the sport amid Hong Kong's record success at the 2025 FEI Asian Championships.

Hong Kong's equestrian community is gaining momentum, with the city's team securing a record seven medals at the 2025 FEI Asian Championships. This backdrop has propelled young riders like 17-year-old Fu Ka-ching onto the international stage.

Fu, who attends the Canadian International School, has built an impressive resume in show jumping. In April, she claimed first place at the Jumping Horse of the Year Show Bronze Championship, organized by the Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong. Her international forays include a sixth-place finish in the 1.05m Final (3.4 feet) at the Welsh Masters in Wales and fifth place in the 1.10m Final at the Grandprix Events’ Fontainebleau Classic in France.

Her most recent outing, the 2025 Chiemsee Pferdefestival in Germany in September, proved particularly challenging due to intense time pressures. Fu discusses the difficulties of juggling riding with academics and the deep bond required between rider and horse, underscoring the dedication needed in the sport.

As a new generation canters forward, Fu's achievements signal Hong Kong's rising profile in equestrian events.
