Human remains found in burned car outside Luleå

Human remains have been found in a burned car outside Luleå, prompting a police investigation into suspected murder. The crime is believed to have occurred around December 1. A man and a woman from Norrbotten are suspected of involvement, with the man released but the woman detained.

A car fire outside Luleå on December 1 was initially investigated as vandalism, but human remains were later found in the vehicle, according to police spokesperson Marie Andersson. “A passenger car burned. When investigative measures were carried out, human remains were found in the car,” she told TT. The deceased person has not yet been identified, and the crime is classified as murder and gross desecration of a corpse.

A man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, who have a close relationship, were arrested on suspicion of involvement. The man was requested for detention on probable cause for murder and gross desecration, but Luleå District Court released him during Monday's hearings, though he remains a suspect. The woman was detained on the lower level of suspicion, reasonable grounds, for gross desecration. Both deny the charges.

Prosecutor Joseph Ricken stated: “The man is still suspected in the investigation” and “There were circumstances pointing to these two persons.” The murder is believed to have occurred in a village outside Luleå or elsewhere in Sweden. Police are continuing their investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the burned car and the remains.
