HV71 reshuffles coaching roles to boost performance

HV71 has restructured its coaching staff responsibilities in an effort to improve amid a challenging season. Head coach Anton Blomqvist will now focus on defensemen and special teams, while assistants Nicklas Rahm and Kris Beech take charge of forwards. The team is also emphasizing mental preparation with the help of a sports psychologist.

HV71, currently struggling in the SHL standings, has implemented changes to its coaching setup to inject new energy into the team. After 24 games, the club sits in 13th place with 22 points, prompting a reevaluation of their approach.

The adjustments involve head coach Anton Blomqvist shifting his focus to defensemen and special teams, areas where he feels particularly comfortable. Previously, the trio of coaches operated with Kris Beech handling forwards, Nicklas Rahm managing defensemen, Rahm overseeing penalty kill, Beech responsible for power play, and Blomqvist maintaining the overall structure. Blomqvist confirmed the changes to Sportbladet, stating, “Det stämmer till viss del. He added that the initiative came from the coaches themselves as they assess what works best for the new staff assembled this season: “Vi har utvärderat och hoppas att det här kan hjälpa oss framåt...

In parallel, HV71 has intensified work on the mental side of the game. Interim sports director Fredrik Stillman revealed that a sports psychologist is attached to the club, and the team has spent significant time this week addressing psychological aspects. He emphasized the need for players to stay aggressive after conceding goals: “Det är att förstå läget, vad som händer när vi släpper in ett mål.

These steps reflect HV71's determination to turn their season around by refining both tactical and mental elements.
