Skåne has experienced cold weather for an extended period, but as temperatures rose slightly on Wednesday, snow melted and refroze during the afternoon and evening. This created widespread slippery conditions across the region. Rescue service duty officer Mats Nilsson described the situation as 'glashalt'—extremely icy—and advised people to stay home and postpone errands until Thursday.
Several accidents were reported that evening. Rescue services were called to incidents on Väg 17 in Höör, Augustenborg in Malmö, and Malmövägen in Lomma. A specific crash occurred on Lindängelundsvägen around 8:50 p.m., where two cars collided, sending one into a ditch. During towing, a person was struck by a passing taxi, but no serious injuries occurred, according to police spokesperson Jakob Palmgren. Another incident was a head-on collision on Käglingevägen near Fosieanstalten shortly before 9 p.m., involving two cars. One vehicle ended up in a ditch, and one person was taken to the hospital. Both drivers were conscious, as reported by SOS Alarm team leader Sören Gustavsson.
Skånetrafiken announced on Thursday evening that many bus lines were operating at reduced speeds due to the ice, causing delays. Several lines were fully canceled, including all city traffic in Malmö. Trafikverket warned of difficult road conditions in southwestern Skåne and challenging surfaces in the eastern parts.
The rescue service handled reports of slippery conditions in Malmö, where cyclists and pedestrians were falling. Nilsson linked all incidents to the ice: 'Allt har med halkan att göra. Det är glashalt på vägarna'—'Everything is due to the slippery conditions. The roads are extremely icy.'
