Indian state-owned RailTel to build data centre in Addis Ababa

Indian state-owned RailTel Corporation has announced plans to construct a greenfield data centre in Addis Ababa for Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project supports the Digital Ethiopia Strategy and is set for completion within one year. It aims to bolster digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data services.

RailTel Corporation of India Limited, a state-owned entity, has revealed in a press release its intention to develop a greenfield data centre in Addis Ababa specifically for Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This initiative aligns with the nation's Digital Ethiopia Strategy, with construction slated for completion in one year, succeeded by three years of operations and maintenance services post-commissioning.

As a telecommunications firm under Indian Railways, RailTel delivers broadband connectivity, data centre solutions, and network technologies both domestically and internationally. Its operations emphasize digital infrastructure and IT-enabled services.

The company's Chairman and Managing Director stated, "RailTel is committed to delivering the project to high quality and reliability standards, reinforcing its position as a global digital infrastructure partner aligned with India’s development cooperation objectives." This development is poised to enhance Ethiopia's digital foundations, cybersecurity capabilities, and data service provisions.
