Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani recently met with Hisham Talaat Moustafa, the head of Egyptian property developer Talaat Moustafa Group Holding (TMG), to discuss the Al-Rafal economic city project. The meeting was also attended by the head of Iraq’s National Investment Commission and the Saudi ambassador to Iraq, highlighting regional interest in the initiative.

The discussions centered on the challenges facing the project’s implementation, including logistical and regulatory hurdles, and strategies to overcome them. In May, Iraq’s investment authority and TMG signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the new city, aimed at bolstering Iraq's economy through foreign investments.

Al-Sudani stressed the importance of fruitful economic cooperation and partnerships with brotherly Arab countries, emphasizing the need to strengthen investment bridges to achieve development. This meeting comes amid Iraq's efforts to attract foreign investments, particularly from Arab nations, to support major infrastructure projects. The Al-Rafal project is expected to create jobs and diversify the Iraqi economy.
