Jelena Ostapenko shares ballroom dancing video ahead of Canadian Open

Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko posted a TikTok video of her ballroom dancing skills that has gone viral. The clip comes during her break following a Wimbledon mixed doubles title.

Ostapenko wrote in the video caption that ballroom dancing is one of her favorite hobbies. She began both tennis and dancing at age five and competed in Latvia's National Ballroom Dance Championships as a child before focusing on tennis around age 12.

She turned professional in 2012 and resumed dancing in 2014. Ostapenko has previously stated that the activity improves her footwork, balance and coordination on the court. In a 2017 interview she described attending sessions four times a week in Riga and named the Samba as her favorite dance.

The 29-year-old recently won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title with Marcelo Arevalo. She is scheduled to return to competition at the Canadian Open beginning August 2.
