Jordan Peters appointed head coach for Providence College curling program

Providence College in Otterburne, Manitoba, has named Jordan Peters as the inaugural head coach for its new curling teams, starting in fall 2026. Peters, a 2020 world junior curling champion and college alumnus, aims to foster excellence in both athletic performance and personal character. The program will compete in local leagues and target conference and national championships.

Providence College selected Jordan Peters to lead its newly launched curling program, an announcement that came as little surprise given his ties to the institution. Peters won the 2020 world junior curling championship while studying at the Otterburne-based college and graduated in 2021 with a degree in business administration.

In a statement, Peters outlined his vision: “My goal is to build a program that pursues excellence not only in on-ice performance, but in the character of our athletes.” He emphasized the sport's broader lessons, noting, “At Providence, this means competing at a high level while staying rooted in faith, teamwork, and integrity—representing the university well in everything we do. Curling is a sport that develops far more than technical skill. It teaches accountability, communication, and humility—values that extend well beyond the ice and align closely with what Providence stands for.”

The teams will begin competing in fall 2026, participating in local leagues and bonspiels to stay competitive throughout the season. The program aspires to host a Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) championship tournament and establish a pathway to the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) national championships.

Athletic Director Joel Coursey praised the hire, saying, “We couldn’t be more proud to hire such a standup person and exceptional curler to build our program.” He added, “Jordan has a proven track record as a curler and experience in youth coaching. He demonstrates a passion for the sport and is thrilled to bring his passion to Providence.”

Recruitment efforts are underway, with further details available on the college's athletics website at gopilots.ca. This initiative aligns with Providence's commitment to holistic student-athlete development in a sport known for its strategic depth and team dynamics.
