June Mar Fajardo leads San Miguel in defending Philippine Cup title

San Miguel Beermen defeated TNT 92-77 in Game 6 to defend their Philippine Cup crown. June Mar Fajardo delivered 29 points and 23 rebounds, earning him the Finals MVP award. This marks the team's 12th All-Filipino title.

At the Mall of Asia Arena on February 1, 2026, the San Miguel Beermen secured a decisive 92-77 victory over TNT in Game 6 of the best-of-seven series. This triumph allowed them to defend their Philippine Cup title, mirroring their six-game win against Tropang Giga from the previous season.

June Mar Fajardo, the 6-foot-10 center, dominated with 29 points, 23 rebounds, and 2 steals. This marked his only 20-20 performance in the finals. Over the series, he averaged 19.7 points, 18.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 block, earning the Finals MVP award—now named after Ramon Fernandez for the first time. Fernandez, aged 72, personally presented the trophy to the 36-year-old Fajardo, who now holds a record five Finals MVPs.

"We needed to win. We needed to be assertive. I saw how determined my teammates were, so as one of the team leaders, I had to show that I'm the same," Fajardo said in Filipino.

Fajardo was not alone in his efforts. CJ Perez contributed 19 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds; Rodney Brondial posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds; Marcio Lassiter added 13 points on 3-of-5 from three-point range; and Chris Ross delivered 9 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and crucial defense against TNT's Calvin Oftana.

Oftana scored 28 points through the first three quarters, closing the gap to 68-70, but was held scoreless in the fourth due to Ross's defense. "From start to finish, they showed the character of the team," said coach Leo Austria. "The composure of the players prevailed because of their experience, especially in this situation—a championship game."

This victory gives San Miguel their 12th All-Filipino crown and 31st overall title, with Fajardo securing his 12th championship with the team. The franchise's legacy endures, building on Fernandez's 19 titles including seven with San Miguel.
