Kazuma Okamoto switches walk-up song to country hit

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto has changed his walk-up song to the country track “Choosin’ Texas” by Ella Langley. The switch took effect Friday at the start of the team’s homestand. Okamoto discussed the update after Saturday’s 6-4 victory.

Okamoto previously used “Kibo no Wadachi” by Southern All Stars. The new song has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks and the country charts for 27 weeks. After the win, Okamoto smiled and directed questions to teammate Myles Straw through interpreter Yusuke Oshima. Straw, who suggested the change, said Okamoto has multiple hits in his last three games and appears more comfortable at the plate. Straw noted that most of the roster attended a Luke Combs concert Saturday evening. He added that Okamoto likes the song and the team will continue using it for now. Okamoto has grown more outgoing in recent weeks, according to Straw, who praised his personality and interactions in the clubhouse.
