GM Levon Aronian claimed victory in the Biel Masters Grandmasters Triathlon at the 2026 Biel Chess Festival in Switzerland. He secured the top prize after competing across multiple formats including rapid, classical, and blitz. The event ran from July 14 to July 24.
Aronian earned CHF 10,000 for his win. He built a strong lead during the rapid segment with four wins and one draw, then maintained his position through the classical and blitz stages.
The final phase ended in draws for all participants, preserving Aronian's overall lead. Other top finishers included GM Aydin Suleymanli in second and GM Le Quang Liem tied with GM Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus.
In side events, 16-year-old IM Vaclav Finek of the Czech Republic won the Generation Challenge Invitational Triathlon. Fourteen-year-old IM Christian Gloeckler of Germany took the Masters Open title with eight points from nine rounds.
