Linus Omark opts not to return to Lugano

Swedish forward Linus Omark has decided against renewing his contract with Swiss club Lugano due to family considerations. The 38-year-old informed the club of his choice after his deal expired on November 1, 2025. Omark contributed 11 points in 15 games during his stint with the team.

Linus Omark's time with HC Lugano has come to an end, as the club announced in a press release that the 38-year-old Swedish forward will not return for the remainder of the season. Omark joined Lugano at the end of September 2025 and played 15 matches, recording four goals and seven assists for a total of 11 points, making him one of the team's top scorers.

His contract expired on November 1, 2025, and earlier discussions about an extension hinged on resolving family-related details. Lugano's sport chief Jannick Steinmann had told Swiss outlet Blick that the main issue involved school fees for Omark's children. "Det handlar om skolavgifter för hans barn. Allt borde vara klart den här veckan," Steinmann said, indicating expectations for a quick resolution.

However, Omark ultimately decided against continuing, citing unsuitable school options in Switzerland for his daughters. The club expressed gratitude in their statement: they thanked Omark for his engagement, professionalism, and valuable contributions to the team's development.

Prior to Lugano, Omark left Luleå after winning the SM-guld in May 2025. There was interest from Södertälje in HockeyAllsvenskan, but no agreement was reached. Luleå was also mentioned as a potential option, though his future remains unclear following this decision.

Lugano faces upcoming games against SCL Tigers, Kloten, and Biel-Bienne, but Omark's status is now resolved outside the club.
