Longines Global Champions Tour confirms Cairo leg

The Longines Global Champions Tour has announced its first event in Cairo, Egypt, set for October 22-24, 2026, where top riders will compete in front of the Pyramids. This addition marks a historic expansion for the series, blending sport with cultural landmarks. A five-year agreement ensures the event's longevity.

The announcement of the Cairo leg for the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) was made this week, attended by high-ranking Egyptian officials, including the prime minister and the head of the Egyptian military academy. LGCT president and founder Jan Tops described the development as "a new and truly historic chapter for the Longines Global Champions Tour."

Tops emphasized the unique setting, stating, "Bringing the Longines Global Champions Tour to Cairo is something truly special for all of us. To be jumping in front of the Pyramids, one of the most iconic and historic landmarks in the world, is not just a sporting milestone, but a cultural moment. This is where history meets modern sport, where tradition and excellence come together."

He highlighted the support from key partners, thanking title sponsor Longines, Qatar Museums, and ACUD, along with Egyptian authorities, noting that "without your belief, cooperation, and support, this event would simply not be possible." Tops added that the venue offers "an unforgettable setting" for riders, teams, partners, and fans, reflecting the tour's values of innovation and ambition.

The Cairo event forms part of a 17-stop series in 2026, beginning in Doha from March 4-7, including London on August 7-9, and concluding with playoffs in Riyadh on November 18-21. This expansion underscores the LGCT's growth into new regions, particularly the Middle East, to inspire future generations in showjumping.
