Man arrested for attempting ATM theft in Katpadi

A 53-year-old man from Bengaluru was arrested in Katpadi for trying to break into an ATM machine. Police caught him after bank officials reviewed CCTV footage of the failed attempt.

S. Varadarajan was taken into custody by Katpadi police in Vellore on Tuesday. He had been unemployed and moving along the Chittoor-Katpadi-Arakkonam-Chennai rail route in recent weeks before targeting the machine near the farmers’ market. Officers seized mobile phones, welding machines and fake ATM cards from him. A case was registered and he was sent to Central Prison in Vellore, where a further probe is continuing. Bank staff noticed the damage on camera and informed local police, leading to the quick arrest.
