On New Year's Eve, December 31, an accident occurred in an apartment in Hörby, Skåne. According to police, the man, in his 30s, had been "experimenting with fireworks" in his kitchen. Shortly after 6 p.m., emergency services, police, and ambulance were called to the scene after a firework detonated, causing a small fire and smoke development.
The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries to his fingers and hands, according to Region Skåne. The fire service quickly extinguished the fire, and no other damage to the property was reported.
Police spokesperson Leif Fransson commented: "It's hardly a police matter, so to speak. Setting off fireworks in one's kitchen is highly inadvisable but hardly criminal." According to Fransson in another report: "Someone burned off a firework in a kitchen and started a small fire."
