Markus Ljungh signs with Kölner Haie after Linköping exit

Markus Ljungh has left Linköping HC after six seasons to join Kölner Haie on a one-year deal. The 35-year-old center described the move as a chance to regain enjoyment in the sport following difficult years.

Ljungh and Linköping HC parted ways this summer despite one year remaining on his contract. He had served as an alternate captain and key leader during his time with the club.

The past seasons proved mentally challenging as the team battled at the bottom of the SHL. Ljungh said he took much of the burden on himself and now seeks distance to enjoy hockey again.

He signed with the German club Kölner Haie, where former teammate Patrick Russell already plays and Tomas Berglund serves as head coach. Ljungh will commute from Linköping, where his family remains.

He expressed continued goodwill toward his former club, saying he hopes things go well for Linköping HC.
