The New York Mets have traded infielder Jeff McNeil to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for minor-league prospect Yordan Rodriguez. The deal includes $5.75 million from the Mets to cover part of McNeil's salary. McNeil, a two-time All-Star, expressed gratitude to the Mets organization in a farewell statement.
The New York Mets continued their offseason roster overhaul by trading veteran infielder Jeff McNeil to the Oakland Athletics on December 28, 2025. In return, the Mets received minor-league catcher Yordan Rodriguez, while sending $5.75 million to Oakland to help offset McNeil's $15.75 million salary for the 2026 season. If the Athletics decline McNeil's $15.75 million club option for 2027, the Mets would cover a $2 million buyout.
McNeil, drafted by the Mets in 2013, spent eight seasons with the organization, earning two All-Star selections and the 2022 National League Silver Slugger Award as a second baseman. He played a key role in the Mets' lineup during his tenure but becomes the latest cornerstone to depart, following Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo.
In an Instagram post, McNeil reflected on his time in New York: “New York will always be a part of my story. The Mets organization is all I have ever known since being drafted in 2013, and it has been an incredible run. I’m incredibly thankful for every moment, every lesson, and every memory along the way.” He also thanked owners Steve and Alex Cohen, the coaching staff, teammates, and fans who made the city feel like home.

For the Athletics, McNeil provides experienced infield depth as they transition to their temporary home in West Sacramento.
