Micailah Cook leads ETSU at Tryon Winter Invitational

Micailah Cook won the 200m and placed third in the 60m to lead the East Tennessee State University women's track and field team at the Tryon International Winter Invitational in Mill Springs, North Carolina. The sophomore from Sandston, Virginia, improved on her previous times while her teammates secured nine additional top-10 finishes over the weekend. ETSU's performance highlighted strong debuts and personal bests across multiple events.

The Tryon International Winter Invitational took place over the weekend in Mill Springs, North Carolina, with East Tennessee State University's women's track and field team, known as the Bucs, competing strongly. Micailah Cook anchored the team's efforts by winning the 200m event in 24.70 seconds, a time that surpassed her performance from the previous year's SoCon Indoor Championship finals by more than half a second. She also achieved a personal best of 7.72 seconds in the 60m, securing third place.

Cook's results marked the Bucs' only podium finishes, but the team added depth with nine other top-10 placements. In field events, Sophia Edwards made her ETSU debut by clearing 3.30m for fourth in the pole vault. Brianna Fulford jumped 1.53m for sixth in the high jump and followed with a 5.23m long jump for 10th place, just shy of her personal best.

On the track, Sophie Beach led the mile with a sixth-place time of 5:15.24, ahead of Deena Lutdke in eighth at 5:16.19 and Eliza Everett in 10th at 5:18.67. Lutdke also ran her first collegiate 800m, finishing ninth in 2:25.68. Patty Kilkelly debuted with an eighth-place 1:42.6 in the 600m and led the 400m for ETSU at 1:01.58. Katelyn Lemke placed 10th in the 200m with 25.83 seconds.

Tyla Nicholson topped the weight throw for the Bucs at 13.81m. Lucy Smithberger competed in her first 400m (1:02.98) and 600m (1:45.53). Debutants in the 800m included Eliza Everett (2:26.81), Kendall Johnson (2:31.39), and Gracie Franklin (2:31.44).

The Bucs next compete at the VMI Invitational on January 23-24 in Lexington, previewing the SoCon Indoor Championship venue.
