Muschiettis eye 'It' films supercut amid 'Welcome to Derry' season 2 work

Andy and Barbara Muschietti are planning a supercut of their 'It' films but face timing challenges due to commitments on 'Welcome to Derry' season 2. The siblings shared updates on the long-teased project during recent interviews. HBO executives have expressed strong support for the prequel series' continuation.

Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara, directors of It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019), have revisited plans for a combined supercut of the two films adapting Stephen King's novel. Barbara Muschietti noted that time constraints have delayed the release, as the pair juggled multiple projects. Andy Muschietti told SlashFilm, “We didn’t have time to do it because we were involved in all kind of projects. The show had a priority over the supercut.” He added that they now feel positioned to seek studio support, though commitments to It: Welcome to Derry season 2 and other films take precedence. “We’re going to do it,” he affirmed. The supercut, first teased by Andy in 2019 during early talks with Warner Bros., would incorporate deleted scenes and new footage, exceeding six hours in length. In January, he described it as featuring a different structure with added scenes yet to be filmed, serving as connective tissue for the story. Meanwhile, Welcome to Derry season 1 finale drew a record 6.5 million U.S. viewers in its first three days last December. HBO chief Casey Bloys told Deadline the series was a huge success and not in limbo. “Andy and Barbara are hard at work trying to come up with an idea for a story they’d want to tell for another season. I would happily do it,” Bloys said. Andy Muschietti envisions a three-season arc, each installment rewinding 27 years to prior It attacks on Derry.
