Nintendo deletes adult-themed Animal Crossing island after five years

Nintendo has removed a popular but risqué 'adult only' island from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which had existed for over five years. Created by user @churip_ccc, the island featured mature humor and attractions that drew attention from streamers and Japanese players. The deletion occurred alongside the game's 3.0 update.

The island, designed by @churip_ccc, stood out in the family-oriented world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons with its adult-themed elements. Visitors encountered a 'free information center,' a Japanese concept often linked to guiding people toward adult services such as brothels and strip clubs. The setup included a simulated red-light district and a love hotel, decorated with statues of Michelangelo's David partially obscured by foliage to highlight specific features.

Other areas on the island offered shops with schoolgirl-inspired clothing and adult toys, vending machines dispensing 'natural herbs,' designated smoking zones, and spaces evoking casino atmospheres. Even in-game residents reflected the theme: Blathers, the insect-averse owl curator, had a room filled with used tissues and multiple images of Isabelle, the series' cheerful dog character.

The creator announced the island's closure just before the release of the 3.0 update, which added features like a Resort Hotel. In a statement, @churip_ccc expressed disappointment but thanked Nintendo for overlooking the content for more than five years, saying they apologized and appreciated the company 'turning a blind eye.' Although the island is no longer accessible via Dream Islands, recordings from streams allow fans to revisit its quirky design.

This removal underscores Nintendo's emphasis on maintaining a wholesome environment in Animal Crossing, even as updates introduce fresh content to keep the game engaging for its broad audience.
