Nissan withdraws plan to build EV drive units in Britain

Nissan Motor Co has dropped plans to manufacture powertrains for electric vehicles at a new factory in Britain.

Nissan Motor Co has withdrawn a plan to manufacture powertrains for electric vehicles in Britain. A source familiar with the matter said the decision was made as the Japanese automaker reviews its production and factory numbers.

Jacto Ltd, a Nissan subsidiary, had planned to build a factory in Sunderland in 2026 to supply drive units to a Nissan assembly plant. The models involved include the Leaf and the Juke, which is set for rollout in Europe in 2027.

The Yokohama-based company is now expected to secure the necessary drive units from Japan instead.
