North West previews music sampling Kanye West's 'Coldest Winter'

North West has shared a preview of her unreleased music on TikTok Live, featuring a sample from her father Kanye West's track 'Coldest Winter.' The new work serves as an electropop tribute to West's late mother, Donda West. This follows recent collaborations and performances by the young artist.

North West, the daughter of Kanye West, recently previewed unreleased music during a TikTok Live session. The track samples 'Coldest Winter' from her father's 2008 album 808s & Heartbreak. Described as an electropop tribute, it interpolates Tears for Fears' 'Memories Fade' and honors Donda West, who passed away in November 2007 due to coronary artery disease and complications from cosmetic surgery.

The beat in North's version includes punchier drums compared to the original, while retaining the same melody and faint echoes of Kanye West's vocals. Earlier this year, in January, North shared a snippet of a collaboration with her father, rapping lines such as: 'All my friends are hits, you know I’m not lazy/ You’re so angry that I’m so mainstream/ I’m not sure I’m crazy/ I want more piercings and tats/ I love blue hair, put it in some plaits/ Put the music to the max/ I want like a hundred thousand racks.'

Shortly after, North, sporting blue hair, joined Kanye West on stage in Mexico City for his first performance there in 20 years at the La México venue. She accompanied him on 'Only One' and performed her own 'Piercing on my Hand.'

Throughout 2025, North collaborated with FKA Twigs on 'Childlike Things' from the album Eusexua, where she rapped in Japanese. She also appeared on the Kanye West-produced 'Lonely Roads' from King Combs' Never Stop EP. Reports indicate North signed with Larry Jackson’s Gamma record label in February 2026, with more music forthcoming. Kanye West, now known as Ye, signed with the same company earlier that year.
