NSU basketball teams gear up for NCAA Division II South Region

Nova Southeastern University's men's and women's basketball teams are preparing for the NCAA Division II South Region tournament after winning their conference titles. The top-ranked men's team will host Morehouse College, while the women's squad faces Miles College on the road. Both teams aim to advance deeper in the postseason.

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) has secured its fifth consecutive Sunshine State Conference (SSC) title with the men's team, ranked No. 1, clinching the championship in dramatic fashion. In the SSC final, the Sharks staged a come-from-behind overtime victory over Palm Beach Atlantic, winning 92-85. Ross Reeves sealed the win by drilling a shot from just inside halfcourt to force overtime and was named tournament MVP for his efforts.

The men's team, seeded No. 1 in the South Region, will host eighth-seeded Morehouse College on Saturday, March 14, at Rick Case Arena in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The winner of that matchup will face the victor of the game between No. 4 Florida Southern and No. 5 Montevallo. Other first-round pairings include No. 2 Palm Beach Atlantic against No. 7 Alabama-Huntsville, and No. 3 West Alabama versus No. 6 West Florida.

On the women's side, the fifth-seeded Sharks defeated Florida Southern to claim the SSC crown and will travel to Huntsville, Alabama, to play No. 4 Miles College on Friday, March 13. The women's bracket features No. 1 Alabama-Huntsville hosting No. 8 Edward Waters University, No. 2 Union University (Tenn.) against No. 7 Florida Southern, and No. 3 Eckerd College versus No. 6 Embry-Riddle. The South Region champion will advance to the NCAA Elite Eight in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“Our men’s and women’s basketball teams have had outstanding seasons,” said NSU President and CEO Harry K. Moon. “The NSU community and I are proud of their accomplishments and are excited to cheer them on in the postseason.”
