Nursing home costs in Bavaria continue to rise

Personal contributions for nursing home places in Bavaria rose to an average of 3,270 euros per month as of July 1, 2026.

Residents of nursing homes in Bavaria are once again facing increased costs. Personal contributions in the first year of stay averaged 3,270 euros per month statewide, according to an evaluation by the Verband der Ersatzkassen as of July 1. This marked a monthly rise of 176 euros compared to July 1, 2025.

Costs have risen noticeably nationwide in recent years. The personal share stood at 1,969 euros per month in January 2020, which is 1,301 euros below current levels.

"Nursing care costs are rising unchecked, and with a partial benefits insurance like long-term care insurance, this comes at the expense of those affected," said Ulrike Elsner, chairwoman of the VDEK board.
