ODM defende secretários de Estado Wandayi e Kinyanjui em meio a pedidos de renúncia por escândalo de combustível

O Movimento Democrático Laranja (ODM) defendeu o Secretário de Estado de Energia, Opiyo Wandayi, e o Secretário de Estado de Comércio, Lee Kinyanjui, contra exigências de renúncia após o escândalo de 4,8 bilhões de KSh em combustível fora dos padrões, que levou à prisão de altos funcionários no início da semana. O líder do partido, Oburu Odinga, alertou que ataques públicos podem prejudicar as investigações em curso.

Em um comunicado em 7 de abril, o líder do ODM, Oburu Odinga, advertiu contra o 'linchamento público' dos secretários de Estado, que não são responsáveis pela gestão de recursos no escândalo. "Tentativas de linchamento público dos secretários de Estado Lee Kinyanjui e Opiyo Wandayi... apenas irão prejudicar as investigações e politizar o esquema", dizia o comunicado.

Isso ocorre após as prisões, em 3 de abril, do ex-Secretário Permanente de Petróleo, Mohammed Liban, do ex-Diretor Geral da EPRA, Daniel Kiptoo, e do ex-Diretor Geral da KPC, Joe Sang, acusados de manipular dados para adquirir combustível fora dos padrões fora das estruturas governamentais. O secretário Wandayi já havia assegurado ao público em 5 de abril que a ameaça estava contida, com o segundo carregamento interrompido e os fundos passíveis de recuperação.

O ODM enfatizou a necessidade de investigações imparciais, alinhando-se à agenda anticorrupção entre ODM e UDA, e elogiou o compromisso do presidente Ruto. O partido acrescentou que, se as investigações envolverem os secretários, "não deve haver vacas sagradas".
