Prime Video's upcoming God of War TV adaptation has added Severance actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson to its cast as Thor. The series, based on the 2018 video game, follows Kratos and Atreus on a Norse mythology-inspired journey. Production is advancing with key roles filled and filming set to begin soon.
Prime Video's live-action God of War series, ordered for two seasons, adapts the story from the 2018 video game. The official logline describes it as: "God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human."
The project was greenlit in 2022 with Rafe Judkins initially as showrunner, but Ronald D. Moore has since taken over following a creative disagreement with PlayStation Productions. Frederick E.O. Toye is directing the first two episodes, with preproduction underway as of December 2025 and filming slated to start in March 2026. No release date has been announced as of January 2026.
Casting highlights include Ryan Hurst as Kratos, known for roles in Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead. Mandy Patinkin portrays Odin, the manipulative All-Father described as "paranoid, manipulative, and dangerous—he will do anything to try and prevent Ragnarök." Ólafur Darri Ólafsson joins as Thor, a haunted warrior who "drowns himself in alcohol" while grappling with past battles. Max Parker plays Heimdall, the anticipatory watchman seeking greater power within Asgard. Reports also indicate Teresa Palmer as Sif, though unconfirmed in all sources, and rumors persist of Alastair Duncan reprising Mimir.
Key roles like Atreus, Baldur, and Freya remain uncast. The series builds on the success of other game adaptations like The Last of Us, aiming to leverage the franchise's fanbase amid growing interest in Norse lore on screen.
