The PGA Tour returns to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, for the 18th edition of the Puerto Rico Open, serving as the first additional event of the 2026 season. The tournament features a competitive field including top-ranked players and sponsor exemptions, opposite the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Players aim for 300 FedExCup points and exemptions to major events at the par-72 Grand Reserve Golf Club.
The Puerto Rico Open, held at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, marks the 18th playing of the event and the first additional tournament of the 2026 PGA Tour season. This par-72 course, designed by Tom Kite and stretching 7,506 yards, has hosted the event since 2008. For the second consecutive year, the nines are reversed, with the front nine including two par-5s measuring 600 yards or longer. Last year's tournament saw a record-low 72-hole score of 262 by Karl Vilips, who won with an 8-under 64 in the final round, defeating Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen by three shots after the Dane's back-nine birdie streak and a 63. The 18-hole record stands at 62, shared by Kevin Roy in 2025 and Jhonattan Vegas in 2020.
The field of 120 includes Michael Brennan, the highest-ranked player at No. 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings, who earned his first Tour win at the Bank of Utah Championship. Two-time winner Nick Dunlap makes his debut at Grand Reserve following recent missed cuts. European Ryder Cup participant Rasmus Højgaard returns for his second start, while his brother Nicolai qualified for the Arnold Palmer Invitational via the Aon Swing 5. PGA Tour University alumni Luke Clanton, Gordon Sargent, and David Ford also compete as they advance in professional golf.
Sponsor exemptions highlight emerging talents: Eugenio Chacarra, a former Oklahoma State standout, returns after a T45 in 2021; Blades Brown seeks a rebound; John Daly II debuts as the son of major champion John Daly; and 17-year-old Miles Russell aims for his first weekend cut. Local Puerto Ricans include Rafael Campos in his 16th appearance, Chris Nido, Reinaldo Simoni, and Evan Pena. Other notables are Zecheng Dou, with a 5-for-5 cut-making streak, Takumi Kanaya, and Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who has strong prior results here.
The winner earns 300 FedExCup points, $720,000, exemptions to The Players Championship and PGA Championship, and Tour membership through 2028. Conditions include mid-80s temperatures, east winds gusting over 20 mph, and possible rain. Television coverage airs on Golf Channel Thursday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET and Saturday-Sunday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. ET.
