Pia Sundhage named new coach for Haiti's women's team

Pia Sundhage, aged 66, has been appointed as head coach for Haiti's women's national football team after her contract with Switzerland was not renewed at the end of last year. She views it as another exciting challenge and brings experience from multiple national teams. The contract runs until the end of the year with potential extension.

At the end of last year, Pia Sundhage received notice that her contract as head coach for Switzerland's women's national football team would not be renewed. The 66-year-old Swede now takes charge of Haiti's women's team, as reported by SVT Sport.

Sundhage expresses enthusiasm for the new role. "Another wonderful challenge in the world of women's football. And the chance to learn new things all the time," she tells the TV channel. She has previously coached the national teams of Sweden, the USA, Brazil, and Switzerland.

The contract with Haiti runs until the end of the year but can be extended if the team qualifies for the World Cup in Brazil next summer. The next qualifying match is on March 3 against Suriname. Sundhage highlights the team's potential: "The best level of individual players is incredibly interesting. But it's a team sport. And we want to build something together now."

Lilie Persson will serve as assistant coach in the new setup. Sundhage's international experience in women's football is expected to help develop Haiti's team.
