After colliding with an opponent, he lay on the pitch, briefly stood but sat down again, and was carried off on a stretcher. The home crowd booed as a plastic bottle was thrown at him while he left the arena on crutches.
Two days later, Malmö FF confirmed the diagnosis following a medical examination: an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee. The club announced Jansson will miss the rest of the season, with surgery and rehabilitation ahead. "Based on this examination, it is determined that the anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee is damaged," MFF stated on its website.
On Instagram, the 35-year-old posted two emotional messages. "My life's toughest journey begins now. But I will make my mom and dad proud again... Malmö, I will come back. Please be with me until then," he wrote, among other things. He urged fans to fight for the team in his absence.
The day after the match, Jansson shared hateful messages he received, with some wishing his career was over. The injury is seen as a huge setback for Malmö FF.
