President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Kabanaran Bridge in Yogyakarta on November 19, 2025, designed to be earthquake-resistant. During the event, he instructed regional heads not to mobilize school children for his welcomes. Prabowo expressed appreciation for public enthusiasm while expressing concern for children standing under the hot sun.
On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Kabanaran Bridge connecting Bantul Regency and Kulon Progo Regency in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The 2,300-meter bridge was constructed by PT Adhi Karya (Persero) and PT Sumber Wijaya Sakti (SWS) through an operational cooperation (KSO). SWS is part of Surya Group Holding Company led by Haji Muhammad Suryo.
The bridge features Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) technology to absorb earthquake energy and Corrugated Steel Plate (CSP) for a lightweight, cost-effective structure. It holds a Museum Rekor Indonesia Dunia (MURI) record as the longest bridge using CSP and lightweight foam mortar fill at 675 meters. The fill material is produced by PT Surya Beton Precast, a Surya Group subsidiary.
"We are very grateful to contribute to the construction of the Kabanaran Bridge, which can improve connectivity and certainly local economic growth," said Haji Suryo. The bridge links the Congot-Ngremang route in Kulon Progo to the Pandansimo-Samas route in Bantul, facilitating goods distribution, boosting local economy, and supporting balanced development between northern and southern Yogyakarta.
At the end of his inauguration speech, Prabowo issued an instruction based on his arrival experience. "So, I request the regents henceforth and for regents throughout Indonesia, mayors, when I come, no need to mobilize school children," he said. He appreciated the students' enthusiasm in welcoming him but felt sorry for them waiting long in the heat. "I'm impressed but I also feel sorry for them standing long in the heat," added Prabowo.
