Rebel Wolves unveils main theme for The Blood of Dawnwalker

Polish developer Rebel Wolves has revealed the main musical theme for its upcoming dark fantasy RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, which bears striking similarities to The Witcher 3's soundtrack. The theme, performed by a chamber orchestra, highlights Polish folk influences amid announcements of fresh game details. The title is set for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers, unveiled the main musical theme for The Blood of Dawnwalker during a new year update video and a special chamber orchestra performance. Composed by Nikola Kołodzieczyk, the piece features eerie folk-like singing by Karolina Matuszkiewicz and scraped violin by Kacper Malisz, building with strong drum beats to wailing vocals and frantic strings. Observers note its close resemblance to The Witcher 3's theme, which drew on Polish folk sounds co-composed by Marcin Przybyłowicz and the folk-metal group Percival.

Directed by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who helmed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Blood of Dawnwalker shares thematic and stylistic elements with its predecessor, including a dark fantasy setting, a supernaturally capable protagonist, adult tone, third-person perspective, and similar gameplay. However, key differences set it apart: players control Coen, a part-human, part-vampire character able to walk up walls and teleport at night. Unlike The Witcher 3's structured campaign, the game offers a more open experience without a main storyline, centered on a 30-day objective to find and free the protagonist's family in a forested valley, where players decide their path.

The announcement, timed with the January full moon known as the Full Wolf Moon, comes from Rebel Wolves in partnership with Bandai Namco Entertainment. While Percival's involvement in The Witcher 4 remains unconfirmed, their signature sound continues to echo in projects like this one from ex-CDPR talent.
