The No. 3 nationally ranked Rowan University men's indoor track and field team won its third consecutive All-Atlantic Region Track and Field (AARTFC) Regional Championships at The Armory in New York City. The Profs scored 118 points to finish well ahead of second-place SUNY-Geneseo with 69 points. Several athletes qualified for the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
Rowan University's men's indoor track and field team dominated the two-day AARTFC Regional Championships held this past Friday and Saturday at The Armory in New York City. Ranked No. 3 nationally, the Profs amassed 118 points, surpassing second-place SUNY-Geneseo by nearly 50 points.
The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Rajahn Dixon, Marquis Taylor, junior Teddy Wilson, and Dallas Hohney recorded a season-best time of 3:14.07, earning the No. 11 mark in Division III. "This is a sport where you have to be a little delusional," Dixon said. "But we knew that we could run 123."
Dixon will compete in the 200 meters at the NCAA Division III Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, this upcoming weekend. "We have a really good chance of winning," Dixon added. "We have so many guys that can be national champions."
Freshman David Brown cleared 2.12 meters in the high jump, leading the Profs to a 1-5 finish in the event. He also advances to nationals in the high jump. Head coach Dustin Dimit praised Brown's progress: "He’s very coachable, he realizes the cues that coach Good (Milton) and I give him. That consistency is what we’re looking for as we head into nationals."
Senior Kwaku Nkrumah claimed victory in the 60-meter hurdles, with five Rowan runners competing. Nkrumah and fellow senior sprinter Jason Agyemang will represent the Profs at nationals. Agyemang, who won the 60-meter dash at last year's nationals, will run the 60-meter hurdles. "As long as we go out there, everybody does their job, everybody handles what they need to handle, we’re going to get the job done," Agyemang said.
The team now prepares for the NCAA Men’s Indoor Track and Field National Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham over two days this weekend.
