S-Bahn train with 235 passengers hits car on tracks

An S-Bahn train carrying 235 passengers collided with a car on the tracks in Hamburg. No one was injured, but the line was blocked for hours. The exact cause remains unclear.

The incident occurred on Thursday shortly before 5:30 p.m. during Hamburg's rush hour at the Sieversstücken level crossing. The S1 train heading toward Wedel, carrying 235 passengers, collided with a car on the tracks despite emergency braking. A Federal Police spokesperson stated that the female driver managed to exit the vehicle before impact and remained unharmed. The car was dragged along by the train until it came to a halt.

The level crossing is equipped with a half-barrier. According to the spokesperson, the woman likely drove her car into the track bed adjacent to the concrete crossing and could not drive out. The precise cause is still under investigation. Several media outlets had reported on the event earlier.

Following the collision, the line was shut down. Evacuating the train took about two hours, after which passengers continued their journey on replacement buses. The Federal Police emphasized that, despite the dramatic circumstances, there were no injuries.
