Savian Bush and Casen Hammitt named GAC track athletes of the week

The Great American Conference has announced its ninth men's track and field athletes of the week, with Harding University's Savian Bush and Casen Hammitt earning the honors for the second consecutive week. Bush excelled in the 110-meter hurdles, while Hammitt set a school record in the javelin throw at the Stallion Transportation Harding Invitational. Both performances highlight their strong contributions to the team.

In Russellville, Arkansas, the Great American Conference revealed its weekly awards for men's track and field, recognizing Harding University seniors Savian Bush from Tatum, Texas, as the track athlete of the week, and Casen Hammitt from Nixa, Missouri, as the field athlete of the week. This marks the second straight week that Bush and Hammitt have received these accolades.

Bush secured the 110-meter hurdles title at the Stallion Transportation Harding Invitational with a time of 13.88 seconds, narrowly missing his own school record of 13.75 seconds but achieving an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He also contributed as the second leg on Harding's victorious 4x400-meter relay team, which finished in 3:14.49, more than 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Hammitt dominated the javelin event at the same invitational, establishing a new school record of 69.48 meters on his first throw. This distance represents the top javelin throw in NCAA Division II for the season and surpasses his previous record by over three meters, winning the event by nearly 10 meters.

Other nominees included freshman Darius James and junior Christian Johnson from Southern Arkansas, as well as freshman Gabe Rush from Southern Nazarene. A three-person committee selected the winners.

These performances underscore the competitive strength of the Great American Conference in track and field.
