Democratic Party's High Council Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) stated that his party must be part of solutions to national issues alongside President Prabowo Subianto. The remarks were delivered during a speech at the Democratic Party's National Christmas Celebration 2025 in South Jakarta on January 12, 2026. SBY also affirmed Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) as the party's sole leader.
At the peak event of the Democratic Party's National Christmas Celebration 2025 at Hotel Bidakara in South Jakarta on Monday, January 12, 2026, SBY delivered a speech originally scheduled for his son AHY, who was absent to accompany President Prabowo in East Kalimantan.
SBY stressed the Democratic Party's commitment to national progress. "Democrats together with President Prabowo must be part of the solution, part of the progress. There are already many problems facing this nation, don't add to them by us," he said.
He recalled that the party was founded 25 years ago with a clear identity based on Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, aiming to build a safe, peaceful, just, prosperous nation with living democracy and well-preserved environment. To achieve the goal of becoming an advanced country, unity and effective leadership are needed. "No matter how heavy, there is always a solution. Democrats must believe that with unity, with shared vision, with effective leadership, we can build a better tomorrow," SBY added.
SBY also affirmed AHY's position as the main leader. "The main speech should have been delivered by the Democratic Party leader, Bung Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono. He is the party leader, I can be said to be a senior mentor. There is only one sun in the Democratic Party, Mas AHY," he stated.
He urged party members to work hard for the interests of the state and people. "For Democrats, country first, the people first, then the party. Don't reverse it. State first, people first, then party," SBY emphasized. The speech concluded with motivation: "Paddling upstream, swimming to the shore. Endure hardship first in the sense of effort, then insyaallah we will be happy in the end. Believe me, where there's a will, there's a way."
