SC Magdeburg secures handball bundesliga title early

SC Magdeburg secured the handball bundesliga title with a 31:30 win over SG Flensburg-Handewitt. With three matchdays left the championship is out of reach for rivals.

In front of 6600 spectators in Magdeburg the league leaders won the top match in the final second. Coach Bennet Wiegert urged his players after the final whistle: "The boys should now really let loose."

With 58:4 points SC Magdeburg is unreachable for the chasers from Berlin and Flensburg who both have 49:13 points. Wiegert praised the team: "We have performed very well this season."

The successful coach called the title the "most valuable" for him. Top scorer for Magdeburg was Gísli Þorgeir Kristjánsson with six goals. In mid-June the club can pursue another title at the Champions League Final Four.
