Senators acquire Eklund and Halttunen from Sharks

The Ottawa Senators have acquired forwards William Eklund and Kasper Halttunen along with draft rights to Brandon Svoboda from the San Jose Sharks. In return, the Sharks receive the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The deal was reported on June 23. Eklund, selected seventh overall by San Jose in the 2021 draft, will join former teammate Fabian Zetterlund in Ottawa. Halttunen, a 21-year-old from Helsinki, recorded 35 points in 69 games with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda during the 2025-26 season.

Halttunen was chosen by the Sharks in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft. The 21-year-old also appeared in two Calder Cup playoff games, where he scored one goal.

Neither the Senators nor the Sharks have issued official confirmation of further details. The transaction adds offensive depth for Ottawa ahead of next season while providing San Jose with an additional top-10 selection.
