Seven killed in Poonch landslide as Jammu and Kashmir rain toll rises to 21

Heavy rains triggered a landslide that killed seven people, including four women and two children, in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night. The death toll from rain-related incidents over the past 24 hours reached 21, with three more deaths reported in Doda district.

A landslide struck the village of Domail Dhok Nandichool in the Loran area of Poonch late on July 19. It buried a mud house, killing seven family members. Rescue teams recovered all bodies after a day-long operation.

Three people died and six others were injured in separate shooting-stone incidents in Doda district on July 20. A fresh spell of rain hit parts of Jammu and Kashmir that morning.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced an ex gratia payment of ₹6 lakh to the next of kin of those killed in Rajouri and Poonch. He said power restoration in Poonch is progressing and is expected to be completed by July 21 evening.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast intense weather over the next 48 hours. Authorities have issued advisories for hilly areas.
