South Korean AI consortium signs MOU with Aramco Digital for business opportunities

A South Korean artificial intelligence (AI) consortium has inked a tentative agreement with Saudi Arabia-based Aramco Digital to seek joint business opportunities in the sector. The science ministry stated that the partnership centers on utilizing South Korea's full-stack AI technologies to identify potential applications in the Middle Eastern nation. The cooperation is expected to expand opportunities for South Korean firms in AI projects within Saudi Arabia's energy and manufacturing industries.

On February 1 (Saudi time), a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between a South Korean AI consortium and Aramco Digital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The consortium, comprising seven companies including Rebellions Inc., FuriosaAI, Upstage Co., and LG AI Research, focuses on leveraging South Korea's full-stack AI technologies to explore potential applications in the Middle Eastern nation.

The signing ceremony featured Joh Joon-hee, chairman of the Korea AI and Software Industry Association; Second Vice Science Minister Ryu Je-myung; Aramco Digital CEO Nabil Al-Nuaim; and Mohammed Makhdoum, president of digital services at Aramco Digital.

Aramco Digital, an affiliate of Saudi Aramco—the world's largest energy company—is leading the Middle Eastern nation's AI transformation. The science ministry noted, "The cooperation will expand opportunities for South Korean firms to participate in AI adoption and utilization projects in Saudi Arabia's energy and manufacturing industries."
