Steven Spielberg has become the latest member of the elite EGOT club after winning his first Grammy Award. The acclaimed director earned the honor as a producer on the documentary Music by John Williams, which took home best music film at the 2026 Grammys in Los Angeles. This victory completes his collection of competitive Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards.

On February 1, 2026, at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards held in downtown Los Angeles, Steven Spielberg secured his first Grammy, solidifying his place among the 22 competitive EGOT winners. The 79-year-old filmmaker received the award in the best music film category for his producing role on Music by John Williams, a documentary exploring the life and career of his longtime collaborator, composer John Williams.

Spielberg, who was absent from the ceremony, had his contributions acknowledged by the film's director, Laurent Bouzereau. Bouzereau thanked Spielberg and fellow producer Ron Howard for enabling the project to "tell the story of one of our greatest music voices ever." Williams, now 93, has scored many of Spielberg's iconic films over their 50-year partnership, including Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Jurassic Park (1993), the Indiana Jones series, and Schindler's List (1993). Williams has earned four of his five Oscars for these Spielberg collaborations.

Prior to this Grammy, Spielberg had amassed multiple Oscars, starting with two in 1994 for Schindler's List (best director and best picture as producer) and another in 1999 for best director on Saving Private Ryan. His Emmys include wins for outstanding animated program in 1996 for Steven Spielberg Presents a Pinky & the Brain Christmas and outstanding miniseries for Band of Brothers (2002), Taken (2003), and The Pacific (2010). In 2022, he shared a Tony for best musical as one of over 40 producers on A Strange Loop.

Williams, who announced plans to retire after scoring Spielberg's 2022 film The Fabelmans, returned for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and is set to reunite with Spielberg on the upcoming Disclosure Day. Reflecting on their bond, Williams noted, "Steven is a lot of things... One thing he isn’t is a man you can say ‘no’ to... you can’t ‘retire’ from music. It’s like breathing."

Spielberg also eyes further accolades as a producer on Chloe Zhao's drama Hamnet, nominated for several Oscars. He praised Zhao, saying, "I really believe the earth has a heartbeat... But Chloé Zhao is connected to it in a profound way because it’s where her art comes from." At 79, Spielberg is the second-oldest EGOT achiever, behind John Gielgud's completion at 87.
