Studiocanal, Europe's largest independent film studio, presented at the inaugural CinemaCon Film Showcase on April 13, bringing director Danny Boyle and an opening scene from his new film Ink. The movie stars Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch and Jack O’Connell as Larry Lamb, depicting the launch of British tabloid The Sun in 1969. Production is underway on the adaptation of James Graham's play, with Graham writing the screenplay. StudioCanal CEO Anna Marsh confirmed that Paddington 4 is in development, with writers attached to continue the family franchise that has grossed more than $700 million worldwide. The latest entry, Paddington in Peru released in 2024, was distributed in the United States by Sony Pictures. Executives described the screenwriters as world-renowned comedy talents but did not name them. The studio announced a reboot of 1981's Escape from New York, the John Carpenter action classic starring Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, though no further details were provided. Additional projects include a reimagining of 1981 horror film The Howling, a feature adaptation of Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library in partnership with Blueprint Pictures, and The Mannequin, an original thriller starring Melissa Leo set to begin production this summer under director Sean Byrne.
