Suspect placed in custody after Vix torque theft

A person was detained three days after the burglary at the Châtillonnais museum in Châtillon-sur-Seine, where a 480-gram gold torque was stolen on Friday morning.

Culture Minister Catherine Pégard announced the news during a press conference on museum security. The investigation continues and no details on the suspect’s identity or exact role have been released.

The theft occurred Friday morning shortly after the museum opened. Two men, with uncovered faces and posing as visitors, broke the display case and carried the torque out through the entrance door.

The item comes from the tomb of the Dame de Vix, a Celtic burial site discovered in the 1960s that contained significant funerary goods including a 220-kilogram bronze crater.
