Taskovski Films boards 'We Have to Survive' ahead of Thessaloniki premiere

Taskovski Films has acquired international sales rights for the documentary 'We Have to Survive,' directed by Tomáš Krupa. The film will have its world premiere at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival from March 5 to 15. It explores human resilience amid climate change through stories from various global locations.

Taskovski Films announced it has come on board as the sales agent for 'We Have to Survive,' a documentary written and directed by Slovak filmmaker Tomáš Krupa. The film is set to premiere at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, running March 5-15.

The documentary highlights the challenges of a changing world and the quiet strength of individuals navigating it, through character-driven narratives. It journeys from the fragile Outer Banks of the U.S., where the ocean is reclaiming land, to the vast Mongolian desert, where a family plants trees against the wind. It also visits the underground town of Coober Pedy in Australia, where residents build lives beneath the earth, and the icy shores of Greenland, where ancient fishing traditions are evolving.

Irena Taskovski, head of acquisitions at Taskovski Films, stated: “ ‘We Have to Survive’ brings us face to face with lives already reshaped by a changing climate. But it is not just the scale of the crisis, but the human dignity, and care that emerge within it. These stories remind us that climate change is not distant, it is lived, shared, and deeply human. At a time when the future can feel uncertain, Tomáš Krupa’s film offers something essential: a sense of connection, responsibility, and a reminder that we are all under the same sky.”

Produced by Krupa under his company Hailstone, the film involves co-producers Christian Popp of Yuzu Productions, and Peter Drössler and Arash T. Riahi of Golden Girls Film. Cinematography is by Martin Čech and Ondřej Szollos.

Krupa previously received the Sun in a Net National Film Award, the IGRIC Film and TV National Award, and the Slovak Film Critics’ Award for his 2018 feature documentary 'The Good Death.' He founded Hailstone in 2013, focusing on creative documentaries and art-house features. In 2020, he was selected for the Emerging Producers program at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Festival. Most recently, he co-produced the Austrian-Slovak drama 'Perla,' which won Best Austrian Film at the Viennale in 2025.
