The Dutton Ranch spin-off follows Beth and Rip after Yellowstone

The upcoming Yellowstone spin-off, The Dutton Ranch, picks up the story of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they start a new life on their own ranch. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the series is set to premiere in 2026 on Paramount+ and features a mix of returning and new cast members. It directly continues from the events of the Yellowstone finale, where the couple acquires a 7,000-acre property near Dillon, Montana.

In the wake of the Yellowstone series finale, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler embark on a fresh chapter with their adopted son Carter on a newly purchased ranch. The logline describes their journey: "Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he's supposed to be."

The property, located near Dillon, Montana—a rural area far from tourists—spans 7,000 acres outright and includes a 20,000-acre lease. It features a small house, a large barn, and prime grass, situated over two hours from the nearest airport and without nearby ski resorts. During the finale, Beth surprises Rip with the purchase, emphasizing its remoteness. "I hate town," she declares, while Rip notes its distance from bars, prompting her retort: "Then build me a bar."

Prior to this peaceful shift, the couple faces intense conflict. Beth confronts her adopted brother Jamie, who schemes to develop the original Dutton land into a tourist destination. She kills him in self-defense, with Rip's assistance in disposing of the body at the infamous "train station" in Wyoming and burning Jamie's car in Idaho to stage a disappearance.

Filming for The Dutton Ranch began in August 2025, paused, and resumed in January 2026 in Fort Worth, Texas. Kelly Reilly reprises her role as the sharp-witted Beth, Cole Hauser as the loyal Rip, and Finn Little as the young Carter. New additions include Ed Harris as compassionate veterinarian Everett McKinney, Annette Bening as cunning ranch head Beulah Jackson, Jai Courtney as unpredictable foreman Rob-Will, Natalie Alyn Lind as free-spirited Oreana, Marc Menchaca as reformed wrangler Zachariah, Juan Pablo Raba as problem-solver Joaquin, and J.R. Villarreal as Rip's trusted wrangler Azul.

As a direct sequel to Yellowstone, the series maintains ties to the original through its characters and Taylor Sheridan, who serves as executive producer. While crossovers with other spin-offs like Marshals remain uncertain, The Dutton Ranch promises to echo the franchise's blend of drama and ranch life. The show will stream on Paramount+, following Yellowstone's availability on Peacock.
