Three snowmobiles broke through the ice in Jukkasjärvi outside Kiruna, with three people falling into the water. Rescue services, ambulance, and police were dispatched to the scene on Friday evening. One person was taken to hospital, while the others were rescued unharmed but hypothermic.

On Friday evening, December 5, 2025, police were alerted at 21:02 that three snowmobiles had broken through the ice in Jukkasjärvi, a location outside Kiruna in northern Sweden. A total of nine people were involved in the incident, with three falling into the cold water. Rescue services, ambulance, and a police patrol were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist.

All three individuals who fell into the water were pulled back to land. One of them was loaded into the ambulance and taken to hospital, according to reports from NSD. There are no details on that person's injury status. The other eight involved reported no physical injuries but were hypothermic due to the cold temperatures.

"One person has been loaded into the ambulance," says Sebastian Benitez, operator at the rescue service, to TT.

"Everyone should be out of the water," says alarm operator Rebecka Blad to Aftonbladet.

Just before 22:00, police left the scene, as it was not a police matter. "There was nothing police-related, so we have left the scene," says Elisabeth Glaas, police spokesperson.

SOS Alarm confirms that three people fell into the water but cannot verify the exact number of those involved or snowmobiles. The accident highlights the risks of ice travel in northern Sweden during winter, where the ice can be unstable despite the cold.
