US President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty about whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports a new proposal to end Russia's war of aggression. Trump mentioned talks with Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian representatives, including Zelenskyy. He voiced disappointment that Zelenskyy had not yet read the plan.
On Sunday evening in Washington, Donald Trump stated that the US had discussed a peace proposal with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian representatives, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. "And I must say, I'm a bit disappointed that President Zelenskyy hasn't read the proposal yet," Trump said. This was the situation a few hours earlier.
Although Russia would prefer the entire country, he believes Moscow agrees with the proposal. "But I'm not sure if Zelenskyy agrees with it," Trump added. "His people love it," he noted.
Negotiations took place in Florida, where Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Ukrainian delegates since Thursday. On the Ukrainian side, former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Chief of Staff Andriy Hnatov led the talks. Prior to that, Witkoff and Kushner held five-hour discussions with Putin in Moscow.
On Saturday, Zelenskyy joined the US-Ukrainian talks by phone, describing them as focused and constructive. He anticipates a personal report from Umerov and Hnatov. Key unresolved issues include territorial matters and US security guarantees for Ukraine. The US peace plan, publicized about three weeks ago with originally 28 points, has evolved, but details remain undisclosed. Trump made no mention of further contact with Moscow since Tuesday.
Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to London on Monday for talks with Western partners, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), to discuss the plan's status.
