Udo Lindenberg plans party for his 100th birthday

Five weeks before his 80th birthday, Udo Lindenberg opened an exhibition of his artworks in Werl and announced a party for his 100th in 2046. The musician joked about his age and praised his own pictures. The show features around 200 colorful works.

Udo Lindenberg opened an exhibition of about 200 of his artworks at the Walentowski Galerien in Werl. Around 1000 guests attended the opening, where the musician and painter announced plans for a big 100th birthday party in 2046. "The number is not sexy," he said five weeks before his 80th on May 17, adding that he belongs to the "club of centenarians".

The works are vividly colorful in caricature style, titled like "Sie spielte Cello," "Hinterm Horizont," or "Ich mach mein Ding." They include uniques, large prints, and originals on paper, offered for four- to five-figure sums. During the tour, Lindenberg marveled: "If I had the dough, I'd buy some myself." He started painting years ago to illustrate songs, and it took off strongly.

In the evening, Lindenberg performed songs such as "Hinterm Horizont," accompanied by a Düsseldorf children's choir. The gallery calls the show "Keine Panik in Werl – Das Udo Lindenberg Universum" a tribute to 80 years of "Panik-Power." It opens to the public on Monday.

Ahead of the 80th birthday, a tribute album "We love Udo" with covers by Peter Maffay and Inga Humpe is due, along with a best-of album. Another exhibition on his life and work is currently running in Hamburg.
