Ukraine requested the seizure of the bulk carrier Caffa, boarded off Trelleborg, P4 Malmöhus reports. Åklagarmyndigheten made the decision following a request for legal assistance from another country, where an investigation into suspected criminality is ongoing. The press release was issued on Wednesday.
The press service at Ukraine's prosecutor's office confirmed to P4 Malmöhus that Ukraine is behind the request. The originating country had previously been unknown.
Caffa was boarded in early March. The Coast Guard stated afterwards that the ship had sailed under a false flag and is listed on Ukraine's sanctions list, "where information suggests it involves transport of grain stolen from Ukraine".
