Ulver unveils new single from upcoming album Neverland

Norwegian band Ulver has released the single 'They're Coming! The Birds!' from their forthcoming album Neverland. The track arrives with a visualizer video, ahead of the album's digital launch on December 31. Neverland represents a fresh, experimental direction for the group.

Single Release Details

Ulver, the eclectic Norwegian act, has shared 'They're Coming! The Birds!' as the next single from their fourteenth studio album, Neverland. The visualizer for the track is available online, offering a glimpse into the album's atmospheric sound. Digital release of Neverland is set for December 31, with physical editions following on February 27.

Album Background

Described as the sound of an escape into undiscovered lands, Neverland follows Ulver's recent albums—The Assassination Of Julius Caesar (2017), Flowers Of Evil (2020), and Liminal Animals (2024)—which adhered to more conventional song structures. This new work signals a shift, with the band noting, “With Neverland we embraced a more ‘punk’ spirit – more dreaming, less discipline – freer, quite simply.” The album features bursts of synths, ambient calm blending into anarchic mysticism, dreamy textures evolving into trippy percussion, and lush, exotic spaces.

Musical Style and Influences

Largely instrumental, Neverland evokes late ’90s IDM meeting post-rock meanderings, with distant voices and vocal chops. It carries echoes of Ulver's past releases like Perdition City (2000), the Silence EPs (2001), and ATGCLVLSSCAP (2016), yet feels innovative—a collage of dreams or sonic hallucination from in-between worlds.

Formats and Tracklist

Neverland will be available in formats including Jewelcase CD, black bio vinyl LP, limited crystal clear vinyl (300 copies), marbled transparent blue & white vinyl (1,000 copies), and various limited liquid-filled vinyl editions (33 copies each in blue, orange, and yellow). The tracklisting includes: “Fear In A Handful Of Dust,” “Elephant Trunk,” “Weeping Stone,” “People Of The Hills,” “They’re Coming! The Birds!,” “Hark! Hark! The Dogs Do Bark,” “Horses Of The Plough,” “Pandora’s Box,” “Quivers In The Marrow,” “Welcome To The Jungle,” and “Fire In The End.”
